The Basics of Resin
This morning, I filmed a video on some of the basics of epoxy resin. Epoxy resin has to sit and cure 12-24 hours before you take your project of the mold so I won't be able to post the video until tomorrow. I decided to write this blog post you if you are brand new to resin you can be gathering supplies.
This is just going to cover two-part epoxy resin. Two brands that I really like and are both available on Amazon are Let's Resin and Kisrel. If you're a beginner, I highly recommend a starter kit, such as this one - https://www.amazon.com/LETS-Coaster-Starter-Everything-Include/dp/B0987H729P/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2AX9GL62OB22J&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.Cw54pkrzT5oFxQMP4BukA77McyXB4-x00uMpuqeYn_NafT5IOTYXQI_CU3kD356n6Eh5QCj1xlVaiHCTInvU2JiJQOHplLPVmUifcU18YK8be7fvHMtqRCT5iPFmEt4Nm3val903CiG5-ay9A3c-Ek5rmNGZo6qgXyGSCCnOtVX3LtjG5x3Xd0enV-CQ9jNg4sUXrGqi3dHXwlOtHjr6mAj5tchmFWBXBO3WmfIG85vsUoWC9CU70_fRQ_baIxKxQKsQBEyaoF_uO-_DQVxaLr89SWtqG4xBTxkTIE_-JXs.8QjXrJUlgdnxyh26qc_Nmye3P2jfChW-Dydiyy9uUO0&dib_tag=se&keywords=let%27s+resin+kit&qid=1719590360&sprefix=Let%27s+Resin+resin%2Caps%2C119&sr=8-5. It contains everything you need to get started and at $25.99, it is a very reasonable price. Kisrel also has a starter kit for $23.99 and you can find it https://www.amazon.com/Epoxy-Beginners-Flowers-Measuring-Supplies/dp/B0CVX16V37/ref=sr_1_13?crid=EK4PTGSCZR3B&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.MXgPdSw_NBwYNPN4PjHYT7Bevq-EPB3AF1vNZpMfmt4PSy_egIlT2rct3kL7pWcWOZKYSNKsY35tSpABObcHXblzDsNDFvHoowUY7E2voIo6Ehn4ZlgLSzwuYlVcU9dYTQJHz5WHrLnVSHPNFb1PSn9pVlP5mEQJpCoLJ0Tk3QsNHA2sEMgaLh3M2G6Og5ICncQWgK4r-dUyd0Ngv5r4YBdCAGAhGsi9a_0u4NSkNU1HgM0bE4OMtclUwj_gZKgDxZcWqIMB1nAfWCKviWbBb6rEZ SOMl10g6oCi6zQrSM8.gF9PNq38pYiEPI0tvWvmOCo8xqHuLxEyulstN8GACUE&dib_tag=se&keywords=kisrel+epoxy+resin&qid=1719590651&sprefix=Kisre%2Caps%2C144&sr=8-13 here. Sorry for the long links, I'm still learning.
Don't go out and buy everything. These kits both have small bottle of resin, mixing cups, stir sticks, gloves, molds and mica powders. When I was starting, I bought so many molds and some of them weren't good as beginner projects. Start with coasters and some small key chains. Start simple so you don't get frustrated. I learned this the hard way.
Other things to get are silicon mats. You want to protect your work space and if you work in a small area like I do, things can get messy. The beauty of anything silicon is that dried resin doesn't stick to it! I can be pealed off and take some tape to easily clean it off.
That's all the basics for now. This is not a cheap hobby, but you can keep your cost manageable.
